[세계로컬타임즈 홍윤표 조사위원] 충남 당진시는 22일 유엔이 정한 세계 물의 날을 맞아 석문호 일원에서 기념행사를 개최했다.

당진시에 따르면 세계 물의 날은 물 부족과 오염 등의 문제에 대한 대중들의 관심을 이끌고자 유엔이 제정한 날로 매년 3월 22일이다. 당진시에서도 물 관리의 중요성을 홍보하고 물 사랑과 물 절약 실천 운동을 확산시키기 위해 매년 행사를 개최하고 있다.

‘물, 언제나 어디서나 누구에게나’를 주제로 당진환경운동연합과 당진시지속가능발전협의회 주관으로 열린 올해 기념식에는 지역주민과 환경단체 관계자, 공무원, 기업체, 군인 등 300여 명이 참석했다.

참석자들은 이날 세계 물의 날 제정 취지를 돌아보는 기념식에 이어 식후 행사로 석문호 일원 환경정화활동을 벌였다.

당진시 관계자는 “깨끗하고 안전한 물을 현재에도 미래에도 모든 사람에게 공급하겠다는 올해 물의 날 취지와 같이 하천을 깨끗하게 해 당진시민 누구나 깨끗한 물을 사용할 수 있고 또 깨끗한 물을 미래세대에게 물려줄 수 있도록 노력하겠다”며 “시민들도 하천의 수질이 정화·유지 될 수 있도록 하천변 쓰레기 투기 금지 등 수질개선에 적극 동참해 주길 바란다”고 당부했다.
